Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 - Aguas Calientes
For our one day hike, we choose the most impressive stretch of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Passing through beautiful Inca sites, this sector of the trail also leads us through varied animal and plant life, all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Andes mountains, with the roar of Urubamba river in the valley below.
The rich jungle vegetation of the cloud forest and flowers of all shapes and colors flowers give visitors a taste of Peru´s exotic landscapes. The region also boasts a rich bird life and if we are lucky we may even catch a glimpse of larger animals such as spectacled bears or the rabbit-like viscacha.
In the late afternoon we relish in our first views of the Machu Picchu citadel from the higher point of the Inti Punku sun gate. With sunset rays and few tourists, this is a great photo opportunity! We then descend to Aguas Calientes in the valley to rest in our hotel.

Day 2: Machu Picchu!
Experiencing dawn in Machu Picchu will be well worth today´s early rise! We take the first bus up to the citadel for a 2 hour guided tour of the ruins. We learn much of the Incan culture while immersed in the powerful energies of the citadel walls. Afterwards there is ample time to continue exploring the site, or climb either the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain (pre-booking required well in advance to secure permit). Later in the afternoon we enjoy a picturesque train journey back to Ollantaytambo, where a bus awaits us to return to Cusco.
